To welcome the busiest and most lucrative season for the tourism industry, Honourable Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, on Saturday December 14, 2019 officially launched the 2019/2020 high season, which is usually known as the winter tourist season.
With some of Jamaica’s major private and public sector tourism players present, the tourism Minister lauded their efforts and the impact that they continue to have on the local tourism sector. He highlighted that the high season is of utmost importance for Jamaica and gives the country the opportunity to add more value to the guests’ visit.
He went on further to say that visitors come in search of an experience that is highly dependent on the warm personality that is usually radiated by the local tourism staff. In addition, beautification plays a major role in the experience, an example of which is the recently rebuilt Montego Bay sign.
Minister Bartlett used the opportunity to unveil a plaque recognizing the private sector contributors who provided funds in the sum of five million dollars for the rebuilding of the sign, dubbed the “Montego Bay Experience.”
“The concept of the Montego Bay experience was to give our visitors a warm and unique feeling when they come to our island. It (the sign) is more than an artistic representation, but more of a feel-good aspect of our culture, and an item that will remain as a memory for our visitors”
Minister Bartlett went on to say that the contribution made by the Private sector groups, which include, Knutsford Express, Chukka Caribbean Adventures, Island Routes, MBJ Airports Ltd and Indies Pharma Jamaica Ltd/Bioprist Pharmaceuticals, sends a powerful message about private/public partnerships and highlights that Jamaica’s tourism sector has a promising and bright future.
