Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism COVID-19 Health Protocols

The health protocols document outlines the operational protocols which must be adhered to as part of the Jamaican Tourism Industry’s commitment to keep employees, local communities and tourists safe from risks related to Covid-19 caused by the virus Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2).

As medical research advances or the risk profile related to Covid-19 changes, protocols will be revised. These protocols are designed to support consistent standards across the industry and represent the joint requirements of the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Ministry of Health & Wellness (MoHW), the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and the Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo) in collaboration with the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA) and with support from PricewaterhouseCoopers Tax & Advisory Services (PwC).

Owners and operators in the tourism sector may, at their discretion, include additional protocols so long as the requirements laid out in this document are met. TPDCo will monitor the tourism industry organisations for ongoing adherence to the established protocols.

PHASE 2A APPROACH

The Ministry of Tourism and its agencies have successfully managed and implemented Phase 1 of the re-opening of the tourism sector. The Covid-19 Resilient Corridor has proven to be an effective tool to manage visitor movement within the designated area. To drive the successful phased reopening of the tourism sector, plans have been developed for Phase 2a. Phase 2a of the Covid-19 Resilient Corridor became effective on July 15, 2020 and includes the main road to the seashore from Farquhars Beach, Clarendon to Norman Manley Boulevard, Negril. Similar to Phase 1, only businesses within the Corridor that have been trained, assessed and cleared for opening by TPDCo are allowed to open to tourists during Phase 2a. All ground transportation for tourists must be arranged by a business that has been cleared to open, no unlicensed transportation is allowed. During the period from July 21, 2020 to July 31, 2020, Attractions may operate only during the hours from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

These protocols will be amended at the end of Phase 2a.
